WHAT IS THE STANDARDS OF
THE GREENING HOTELS CERTIFICATION?
Applicants are evaluated through four main area in order to get the Greening Hotels Certification:
1) Energy Management
2) Water Management
3) Improving Indoor Air Quality
4) Waste Reduction and Recycling
This 4 main field, at the halls and open areas, at the rooms, at the dining halls and at the laundries of hotels, in the office fields and at the office operations, is evaluated and audited with many different criteria, and successful Hotels will have Greening Hotels Certificate. All the criteria in the checklist matching with the facilities through situation of minimum achievement, respectively accomodation facilities achieved 60 percent as Bronze, 75 percent as Silver, 90 percent as Gold get the right of Greening Hotels Certificate.
Validity period is for two years. When it is expired, after a re-audit for a half day period hotels like to renew the validity of certificate can continue their current Greening Hotels Certificate.
For an energy management in hotel; energy consuming has to be measured, energy resources has to identified and precautions should be taken to reduce energy comsuming. The precautions as savings of illumination system, usage of smart illumination system, maximum benefits from sunshine as a light, adoption of preventing systems of heating and cooling and the establishment of these systems availability are assessed. At the same time, hotels using energy production as self-replication, producing its energy at least this way are accepted successful. The electronical tools such as mini bar, and air conditions in the rooms is required A Class products. Infoming the clients to create awareness is also among the purposes. Hotels having Greening Hotels Certificate will be the leaders about developing the sustainability conciousness and the energy management in the sector.
Keeping a healthy and high indoor air quality for saving energy is one of the most important criteria of Greening Hotels Certificate. Hotels have to guarantee a clean and healthy indoor air to be a sensitive facilities. Smart steps with indoor and outdoor design in hotel can easily increase the air quality. The smoked and unsmoked rooms has to be seperated far, the doors has to be designed to ensure a clean room from dust, and air condition systems has to be cleaned periodically by licenced companies.
